ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will participate in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup but will not play its scheduled match against India, government sources confirmed on Sunday.
The decision followed a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, during which Pakistan’s participation in the tournament was reviewed.
Officials said Pakistan will compete in the World Cup but will skip the February 15 fixture against India as a protest move.
The government later confirmed the decision in a post on its official X account, saying Pakistan would take part in the tournament while refraining from the match against India.
According to government sources, the move was influenced by concerns over what they described as unequal treatment in regional cricket matters, including recent developments involving Bangladesh at the international level.
The PCB has informed relevant stakeholders of the government’s position, sources added.
Pakistan and India were scheduled to face each other on February 15 under the tournament calendar. Further clarification on Pakistan’s revised match arrangements is expected in the coming days.
